1. Wired to Wear is the first-ever exhibit dedicated to wearable technology—smart clothing and devices designed to extend the human body’s capabilities and make us healthier, stronger and safer. Jackets that help you “see” in dark spaces. Racing suits that deploy their own airbags. A Jet Suit capable of traveling 32 mph. The future of wearable technology is here to explore now.

2. Makers United In this beginner-friendly guided workshop, you’ll get hands-on with circuit building, analyze a prototype, and build fabricated materials into your own wearable LED circuit band. You’ll learn about the workshop’s materials—most produced locally—and discover examples of the latest equipment allowing makers to create at home or in local makerspaces. Find your place in the maker movement, with suggestions on how to continue creating in the forms you enjoy most—or never knew you’d enjoy until you try them.

Everyone is a maker. Even if it’s been a while since you made something just for fun, you were born to tinker and disassemble and build. You’re already part of Makers United.

Visit “Christmas Trees from Around the World” -- Enjoy a one-of-a-kind seasonal celebration by joining us for Christmas Around the World & Holidays of Light, a Chicago tradition which began in 1942 with a single tree dedicated to the Allies of World War II. As always, the Museum’s 45-foot Grand Tree takes center stage in the Rotunda with more than 30,000 lights & 1,000 ornaments, surrounded by more than 50 smaller trees beautifully decorated by volunteers from Chicago’s ethnic communities to represent their various cultures/holiday traditions. Stroll through the trees, enjoy intermittent falling “snow” & savor the performances on the Holiday Stage. Ethnic song & dance performances take place on weekends in conjunction with the exhibit.
